Company Overview
Leesburg, Florida is a progressive city of more than 21,000 residents that serves nearly twice as many people with electric, natural gas, water, wastewater and reuse water utilities. Known as the “Lakefront City,” Leesburg is a central hub for commerce in Lake County, attracting 50,000 people to work each weekday.
Leesburg’s electric utility provides service to nearly 23,500 customers. We currently produce approximately 1.8 million gallons of reuse quality water each day - an important and continuing environmental effort to help conserve Florida’s fresh drinking water. Water and wastewater utilities serve more than 41,000 city and county customers with award winning potable water at very competitive rates. The Solid Waste level of service is the best in the County while the rate for residential customers is one of the lowest in the County. Leesburg also operates Lake County’s only municipal natural gas utility, offering a green, convenient and cost-effective source of energy to 12,000 customers.
The 850-acre Leesburg International Airport was built in 1941 by the Army Air Corps of Engineers to serve as a training base during World War II. It now handles over 50,000 takeoffs and landings annually and provides a large range of aviation services including a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office. A growing community of aviation businesses are also located on-site.
The City also operates emergency services with Police and Fire Departments. The Police Department, which is accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, handles more than 60,000 calls each year, while the Fire Department, which is within the top 0.7% of fire departments in the nation, maintains an ISO rating of 2 and helps to provide City residents with low insurance rates.
